Beaded Binding Mini Album

Create this unique mini album right from scratch. Once you make one, you may not want to stop. This 6-page album also holds 6 page inserts. The completed album is 4.5 x 7.5". We will be using "Memory Lane" stickers and embellishments by TPC Studios. As each page is divided by a bead, this book is great to add lots of thick or lumpy embellishments. The album is tied together with our new Seam Binding Tape. The album itself will be created in class. Time permitting, you may also embellish your pages, or take home to finish embellishing. Please note that this class begins at 6:00pm to give us the maximum amount of time for making the album. Cost $25

Winter Twig Cards

Wednesday January 25, 6:30-8:30pm

Make 4 cards..including the mitten card that is called a "perpetual card". It has 4 sides that are each revealed as the card is opened again, again, and again. You will need to bring a brown ink pad, blending foam, adhesive (wet glue and tape for assembling the cards), a brown, navy and turquoise blue ink pads if you have. (at least the brown if you like to ink your edges). You will also need your paper trimmer and scissors as always. We will be using glitter, die-cuts, inks, brads, ribbon and more. Card sizes are 5x7 (two cards), 6x6, and 4.25 x 5.5" Cost $16 (plus gst).

Tim Holtz Tag #12
This is my favourite tag out of them all. The word "wish" is cut from chipboard that has been covered with metal ducting tape, The house shape is painted blue, covered with rock candy stickles, and swiped with white acrylic paint. I love the little silver tinsel along the bottom edge. Inside the heart, I stamped the nativity image onto tissue paper, and glued in on the back.

Glossy tag, gloss paper stamped with images, glossy accents on the word "peace". LOVE glossy!

Tim Holtz Tag #10
This one uses clear fragments, backed with stamped images for embellishments. The tag is kraft, with a versamark image, and distress ink sponged over top in a couple of places, just to add a bit of colour. It's hard to see in the photo, but the word on the bottom is |believe".

Tim Holtz Tag #9
This background technique uses distress ink, heat embossed with clear powder, then the whole tag is heat embossed again with clear. I had a hard time adhering the word, flourishes and key. Even glossy accents didn't stick. If anyone knows how to stick things onto a heat embossed surface, please let me know. I ended up carefully scratching thru the enamel with a blade, exactly where I wanted to glue my pieces.

The holly leaves on this tag were one of my favorite techniques. They are made from Kraft glassine that have alcohol inks and distress ink embedded using a heat gun. I also emjoyed using the Picket Fence distress stain to create the white-washed background.

Tim Holtz Tag #6
I made two versions of tag #6. The first photo shows a metallic embossed tag and acrylic paint that has been sanded and distressed. The tag is completed with clear embossing enamel over the entire piece.
The second version of tag #6 uses a metallic embossed tag, and alcohol inks as colourants.

Tim Holtz Tag #5
Instead of using a tag shape, this ornament is traced and cut by hand. It is made using a thick clear transparency, alcohol inks, rubber stamps (with Ranger Archival Ink), and backed with white cardstock.

I really loved using the distress crackle paint on the key for this tag. It's hard to see in the photo, but there is a row of clear snowflakes along one edge of the tag. They add a nice subtle effect!

Camp Arnes Weekend Crop

I'd like to thank Sheila for organizing such a great weekend. The ladies were so much fun and inspirational (LOTS of pages completed this weekend). Food was teriffic, and the setting was perfect. If you have never been to a crop before, I encourage you to try one out. Our store has a monthly Fun Crop most months (the third Saturday of each month), plus two full crop events each year...one in May, the second one in October.

DECMEBER DAILY Mini Album

December Daily is an album that documents the month of December leading up to Christmas Day. It is a chance to reflect, to share, and to celebrate the season in a manageable, in-the-moment, way. The entire key to this album is to put it together BEFORE December.

We will be creating a hard covered, 25 page album (size 6x12") using the new 25 Days of Christmas papers and stickers from Simple Stories. A number of pages in this album are made from more than just paper..divided page protectors, manilla file folder, large envelopes, and more. This album has been created with coil binding, but you may substitute binder rings to make it and album that you can add pages to in future years. The sticker sheet comes with the number 1-25 three separate times...enough for you to make two more albums to give as gifts, or use in future years. (all you need to do is add papers and embellishments)

Create 5 different and unique backgrounds inspired by the work of Tim Holtz. We will be using embossing folders, tissue, crackle paint, Adirondack Acrylic paint dabbers, Alcohol Inks, tissue tape, ribbon, brads, string, Glimmer Mist and more. Come prepared to get your hands all "inky". We will focus primarily on creating the backgrounds and exploring a number of ways to use the above supplies. Full colour instructions for creating the cards will be included for those unable to finish the cards during class time.

Please bring a paper trimmer, scissors, adhesives including glue dots, tacky tape and pop dots or foam dots, and a brown ink pad to class.

This event is open to all scrapbookers and cardmakers who want to spend a day creating, sharing, and enjoying time together with others who love these hobbies too. Dinner, snacks and beverages are included for this day, plus you will received a goodie bag There will also be games, contests, product demonstrations, three different make and takes and door prizes. Our dinner will be a Mexican Fiesta! Ole! All this for $45.00 (gst is included in the price)

We will also have a swap and take table with well loved, but un-used supplies. Take something, and leave something in return. You may also add any unwanted supplies to this table if you wish too. Any supplies remaining at the end of the crop will be donated to the Association for Community Living.

The pages of this recipe book are made from 5x7 lined index cards. (this is a great size for recording your family's special recipes). We have used Kaiserkraft's new Nan's Favourites collection of papers, chipboard pieces and more. The covers are canvas board and the wire binding will be done using the Cinch. All the divider pages are pocket pages...great for keeping recipes you cut out of magazines etc. before writing them in your book. With Mother's Day right around the corner, this will make a wonderful gift item.

DOMINO NECKLACE SET

These domino necklaces are made with everyday dominos, rubber stamps, alcohol inks and glimmer glaze. You will be making 2 necklaces in class.

Friday April 29 is a "No School Day". The 2 daytime classes are set aside, but not limited to "Mom and Me Classtime". For a Mom and Me class, the two of you will be working together to create the necklaces. Mom and me classes are also open for individuals. Suitable for children ages 8 and up, who are able to sit and receive instruction for a one hour class.
Please note that alcohol inks are PERMANENT. Please wear appropriate clothing with this in mind.

ENVELOPE MINI BOOK

In this class, make an envelope mini book using your choice of the blue/brown (Twig by LYB), or the bright red/blue/green (by Scenic Route Paper) Please indicate your color choice when you sign up for the class, so that your project can be prepared for you. the album size is 3 1/2 " by 8".

Each book has 4 cardstock envelopes, and 3 extra pages...room enough for at least 10 photos (sized to fit the pages which are 3 5/8 x 8"). We used 3 1/4 " square photos in our project. You can also create extra pages to go inside your envelopes.

We have chosen to complete our album as "44 things about me at age 44.", but of course you can choose to make your album anything you wish. Some suggestions are "10 things I LOVE above you", or "These are a Few of my Favorite Things".

CAMP NUTIMIK CROP Re-Cap
Sonya and the ladies out at Camp Nutimik should be so proud of the wonderful weekend we all enjoyed March 18-20. The Crop area and location was beautiful, the food excellent, and the overall feel of the weekend very relaxed and creative. We were able to scrapbook from 7:30 in the morning until way after midnight (I went to bed just after 2 am...scrapbooking was still taking place). I have never laughed so hard on Saturday night as we watched a female comedian on DVD!

Our store was set up on site all weekend long, plus we provided three separate classes for the guests to enjoy. I would highly recommend this Crop to anyone. It was such a great time. I overheard some of the ladies asking when the next one was already! Thanks Sonya, for all your hospitality.

Super fast, super easy! The hardest part was cropping down the photos to the "right" size!

Spring Crop Roundup

Thank you to all the wonderful ladies who joined us this past Saturday for our annual Spring Crop event. It was such a great day, and we are very thankful to have had great meals, viewed inspiring pages, learned a bit of new techniques, and made some new friends.

As one crop is over, we begin planning the fall crop, which is held in October. We are always on the look-out for ways to make each event better than the last, so please comment, email, phone, or drop in for a chat. Feedback and ideas are always welcome.

For you ladies who asked about the desserts, here is what I added to the cake recipes. (which we jokingly refer to as "blinged up cake mixes"

Carrot Cake:

use a standard carrot cake mix, and add in
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 - 3/4 cup raisins.
frost with a standard cream cheese icing
drizzle with caramel sauce.

Maple Trifle:

use a standard maple walnut cake mix, and add in
1/2 tsp maple extract
extra walnuts to taste
3/4 cup Skor bits sprinkled on top of the cake before baking.
To make the Trifle, layer the following
cut-up pieces of cake
sprinkle with Skor bits
whip cream (made with real whip cream, sugar and maple extract)
Repeat layers.
Top with candied walnuts and more Skor bits.
